How Artificial Intelligence Is Changing the Development of Websites and Digital Products

For a long time, developing a website meant thinking about layout, content, code, and deployment. The process was relatively linear: someone created the strategy, another person wrote the copy, the designer built the interface, and then came development.

Today, this process has completely changed.

Artificial Intelligence in website development has begun to take over stages that previously required hours of research, planning, writing, analysis, and testing.

I remember that a few years ago, we worked with a dedicated copywriter to develop website copy. It was a process separate from design and development.

Today, powered by Artificial Intelligence, we can arrive at an initial content structure much faster, generate copy variations, organize pages, analyze competitors, and even generate an entire visual baseline from a single prompt.

And this is just the beginning.

Currently, we can apply AI across virtually every stage of a digital project: research, copy, UX, development, image generation, SEO, automations, testing, and data analysis.

However, for me, the biggest shift is not simply doing everything faster.

It lies in how we have started to architect digital products.

Artificial Intelligence is not just accelerating development

When we talk about AI applied to website creation, it is easy to think only of tools that generate text or automate layouts.

Yet the transformation goes much deeper.

Previously, most of a website was built to display information and capture a user action.

You landed on a page, filled out a form, clicked a button, and someone had to continue that process manually.

Today, we can approach it differently.

A form can automatically push data to a CRM. An automation can parse that information. An AI can qualify that lead. The system can trigger a personalized message and notify the responsible team.

All of this can happen within seconds of the click.

This is where development moves beyond being just about interface.

The website becomes part of an end-to-end process

This is one of the main shifts I have observed across projects.

I no longer ask only:

“What will this page look like?”

I also start asking:

“What happens when the user interacts with it?”

If someone submits a form, where does that data go?

Is there any manual task involved afterward?

Can we automate it?

Can Artificial Intelligence interpret this data?

Is there an integration that makes sense?

These questions begin transforming a simple website into a component of a much larger digital product.

AI can be integrated from the very start of the project

An essential point to understand is that Artificial Intelligence does not need to enter only at the final stage of development.

It can participate right from step one.

Research and planning

Even before opening Figma or Elementor, we can leverage AI to synthesize research, analyze audiences, identify patterns, structure information, and map out potential directions for a page or product.

This does not mean blindly accepting everything the AI outputs.

Quite the opposite.

The value lies in being able to process vastly more information in significantly less time and using it as leverage to make better decisions.

Copy and content structure

This was perhaps one of the first areas where I noticed a massive shift.

Previously, building a page could rely on multiple back-and-forth rounds between strategy, copywriting, and design.

Today, I can workshop an idea, test different angles, reorganize arguments, and produce multiple structural variations before even touching the layout.

AI does not need to replace solid copy.

It can act as an operational layer to research, structure, test, and refine what we are building.

Design and prototyping

Even interface design has begun to evolve.

Today, we can already transform descriptions into visual structures, generate references, create custom images for a project, and significantly speed up the early prototyping phase.

This primarily eliminates the blank-canvas syndrome at the start of a project.

Instead of starting literally from scratch, we start with possibilities.

And that is where what I still consider essential comes in: human judgment.

Because generating an interface is one thing.

Creating an experience that truly makes sense for someone is another.

Development has also changed

This is perhaps one of the shifts that interests me the most today.

For a long time, there was a clear divide between those who designed an interface and those who could turn it into a functional system.

With No-Code, Low-Code, and Artificial Intelligence, this barrier began to shrink.

Today, we can build applications, automations, internal tools, and integrations without having to code every single part of a system the traditional way.

And this significantly shifts the type of problems we can solve.

A project might start as a landing page and end up involving:

  • forms with conditional logic;
  • CRM integration;
  • n8n automation;
  • external APIs;
  • AI processing;
  • automated messaging via WhatsApp;
  • database;
  • dashboard;
  • internal area for the team.

At this point, we are no longer just talking about building a website.

We are building a connected digital product.
